justice from science™
Forensic scientists today are faced with increasing caseloads, shrinking budgets and reduced pay and retirement incentives. Many of our brightest and experienced scientists are being lured away to higher paying and less stressful jobs, where the pressure to keep up with demand is greatly diminished. Due to this increased turnover rate, scientist training time has been shortened to fill empty jobs faster and actual casework experience has declined. While most modern forensic laboratories have implemented quality assurance systems to ensure that proper protocols are followed, attorneys still have reasons to question the thoroughness and accuracy of forensic testing.
Arma Forensics is equipped to perform nearly all testing related to forensic ballistics and firearms examinations. We can conduct bullet and cartridge case comparisons to determine if these ammunition components were fired by the same firearm or a specific firearm, if available. Firearms can be examined to determine: (1) if the weapon is functioning properly, (2) if the safety devices are in good working order, (3) the amount of force required to pull the trigger and (4) the manner and direction that cartridge cases are ejected from semi-automatic firearms.
Microscopic and chemical testing of garments and other objects through which fired projectiles have passed can help estimate the distance between the muzzle of a firearm and the target.
Tool marks can be produced when the hard surface of a tool comes in contact with a softer substrate by cutting, scraping or compression. It is often possible compare microscopic marks left behind by tools such as pliers, wire cutters, bolt cutters, hammers, chisels and other tools.
In addition to our firearms services, please note that we have experience in other forensic disciplines. While we may not be in a position to perform all types of analysis, we are capable to conducting case file reviews to determine if the work was conducted properly and the correct conclusions were reached. Please consult our About Us page for information on our prior casework experience.
